WOMAN DISTRAUGHT AT VENGEFUL LOVER’S FOWL PLAY
A Froghill woman collapsed in despair last Saturday after dashing home to find her chicken gone and a note from her partner saying he was going to kill and eat it.
The woman, 34-year-old Kay Ponn, had been at a hen night in town when she received a text message from her former partner, threatening to strangle and then roast her pet.
"I rushed back home and then ran out into the back garden,” she said.
“I thought the chicken might still have been in her coop but she was gone. I was hysterical. I just didn’t know what to do."
The man, whom we are unable to name for legal reasons, was angry after the couple had an argument earlier in the day. He snatched the chicken and drove it to his mother’s house where he placed it in a baking tray in the oven.
The distressed bird was saved only by the fact that the man had no cord with which to make a noose. While he was ransacking the house looking for some, the bird made its bid for freedom, jumping down from the oven and running out the open back door.
It was spotted by a passing motorist who drove the frantic fowl straight to the police.
Said DS Bunton of Froghill Contabulary:
"This was not a cry for help. This was not a prank. What we are looking at here is revenge, pure and simple.
"It was only by the merest stroke of luck that this man was thwarted in his callous attempt to choke the chicken."
