FREEZE AWAY STRESS THE FREEZER WAY
Office workers in Froghill are to get a unique stress-busting service.
Special chillout zones, targeting wound-up working people, are to be offered at the Froghill Freezer Centre in St Alfege Street.
Briony Kershaw, manager at the Centre, said: "We decided to turn over a corner of our showroom to local workers because we feel that people need this kind of service.
"Stress is becoming all too common, especially in the modern workplace, and people need to chill out. Here at the Freezer Centre, we decided to take this to heart.
"Our chillout zone doesn't just make people feel relaxed and at peace. It literally freezes the stress out of them.
“We invite people to climb into one of our specially-modified chest freezers, which are permanently set on maximum cold. After 20 minutes with the lid down, the person inside becomes so chilled that their attention shifts to simply staying alive.
“In such conditions, they tend to forget about their everyday worries.”
For those who don’t hit the luminous, easy-reach panic button, the maximum length of a session is half an hour.
"If a customer lasts the full 30 minutes, they’re usually beginning to turn blue and stiffen up,” said Ms Kershaw.
“In such cases, we gently lever them from the freezer and stand them next to the electric kettle in the back kitchen. As they slowly absorb the steam from the kettle’s spout, they begin to thaw and go limp.
"Every muscle relaxes and their previous stressed-out condition becomes little more than a memory. We then use the water from the kettle to make them a cup of soup.
"Customers can choose from Tomato, Minestrone or Chicken with Leek.”
