CRIMEWAVE HITS WITHERING

An orgy of lawlessness descended on Withering this week with two shops and a dairy being burgled on the same evening.

The recently reopened Bingley’s the Butchers was the first to be targeted, suffering a break-in at around 8pm last Monday (October 16). The burglars made off with a pack of sausages and a display model of a pig wearing a straw hat and apron.

Next to be hit was Langham’s Mini Mart where intruders escaped with a bag of Quavers and a sum of petty cash thought to be in the region of £2.47.

Criminals also struck Pint-U-Like at the far end of the village between 9.50pm and 10.50pm, making off with four tubs of passion fruit yogurt and an unspecified number of plastic spoons.

Local resident Eleanor Wishbone said: "Our village used to be so quiet and law-abiding. But after the events of the other evening, one feels one might as well be living in South Central Los Angeles.

“I shall be double locking my door from now on," she added.
